Travelling to China
Hangzhou
There are many international flights direct to Hangzhou. Or you can arrive in Shanghai and take a train (just over 1 hour) to Hangzhou. See below for more information.
Prior to departure
Complete the registration form and pay for the Hangzhou International TCM Seminars.
Book your air ticket with your local travel agent or online.
All participants must purchase their own travel insurance. This is a pre-requisite to joining the seminars.
Book your accommodation by clicking on the links below under Accommodation or through your travel agent.
Obtain 4 passport photos (for visa and hospital ID card).
Chinese visas can be applied for at your local Peoples Republic of China consulate.
Apply for a tourist visa only. This will cover your seminars and hospital training.
Check with your local Medical Doctor for any vaccinations required.
What to take with you
Take any medications and supplements you normally use. For some medications you may need a Doctors authorization – please check first.
April can be cool so pack some jumpers and jacket and long pants plus closed in, comfortable walking shoes.
On arrival in China
Take a taxi from the airport taxi rank to your hotel (Usually less than 200 Yuan (US$25)).
Make sure your taxi driver knows exactly where you are going before you start off. It is a good idea to have your hotels address in Chinese, as most drivers cannot speak very good, if any English.
Try to have a mobile phone with international roaming switched on (contact your phone provider) so you can call the hotel if you have any problems. A local SIM card may be purchased if required for 100 Yuan (US $12.50) from any local phone card shop located on most corners in Shanghai.
Money
Take 500 Yuan (US$40-US$50) to cover taxi fares from the airport to your hotel.
Traveler’s cheques and cash can be exchanged in the hotel at the standard rate.
Local cash can be withdrawn from automatic tellers near the venue, using Visa or MasterCard credit cards, or debit cards with Cirrus or Plus facility.
Meals at local restaurants cost less than US$15. You can also eat very locally and have a bowl of wontons for 4 to 10 Yuan (US .50 cents to $1.20).
The weather in Hangzhou
April temperatures are 20-25 degrees Celsius (60-70 degrees farenheight).
It can occasionally rain and be windy.
